Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten (or TK) is the first year of a two-year kindergarten program created under state law for children who will turn age five between September 2 - December 2.
Background
Senate Bill (SB) 1381, the Kindergarten Readiness Act, required California school districts to transition to a two-year kindergarten program in 2012. LEUSD currently offers Transitional Kindergarten at all K-5, K-6 and K-8 school sites.
A Change in Kindergarten and TK Eligibility
Any child who will turn age five between September 2 and December 2 is eligible to enroll in Transitional Kindergarten. The cutoff date for Kindergarten has been changed to September 1.
